Timebox - Updates from SPIEL 2025

tldr; Prototypes of Timebox and Bomb’s Away were shown at SPIEL Essen with great feedback, pictures from the event and a suggested new digital clock face

It was very nice to see so many of you at SPIEL Essen who came by our booth. Thanks for all the interest in Timebox and/or Bomb’s Away!

For you who did not have a chance to come by, Bomb’s Away! is a family friendly cooperative game with up to six players where players take turns completing a bomb defusal mission. Timebox is a featured component which adds a time element to the game. At SPIEL we showed a prototype of the game and we got some great feedback from our play testers. People liked the novelty of the bomb ticking and the flow of playing with the timer without verbal communication. Many groups chose to play again, several times. Bomb’s Away is developed together with Simplexity Games.

We also showed our new factory made Timebox prototypes and gathered feedback both from new and returning supporters. We picked up these prototypes during booth building at SPIEL and it was also our first time seeing these prototypes in person.

We tested these prototypes even more extensively as soon as we got home by playing a eurogame, Tales of the Northlands

Next, I will be considering all the feedback received and carefully decide what is reasonable to implement considering all aspects of the project.

I have already started on the most requested change which is to display less information on the screen when Timebox is ticking and expand the digital clock face to cover a larger area (common feedback when showing hours and minutes). My plan is to do these changes:

  • Show events that happen to your timer as they happen e.g. show +30s when you receive more time through an increment timer

  • Show smaller details when Timebox happens to be closer to your face, i.e. when moved

In addition I thought it would be nice to be able to customize the look of the numbers to fit with the theme of the game you are playing. Many of you said you love customization! Here are two different examples where the suggested change is on the right Timebox in both pictures.

Let us know what you think!
